How this list was built. School details come from the NCES Private School Survey (2023-24, with 2021-22 records for schools that did not respond). The Direct Payment flag is our name-and-city match against the NCSEAA Direct Payment Nonpublic Schools list for 2026-27, retrieved October 28, 2026. Schools on the state list with no federal record show only their name and city. Tuition is not in either source; ask the school.
Funding note: Only the K-12 grades of a Direct Payment School can draw the Opportunity Scholarship; the Montessori preschool years are paid privately or through MECK Pre-K and NC Pre-K where a site participates.
