Which big Charlotte private schools were not on the Direct Payment list?
Charlotte Latin, Providence Day, Charlotte Country Day, Cannon School and Davidson Day School were not on NCSEAA's 2026-27 Direct Payment list when we checked it on October 28, 2026. Axios Charlotte's August 2026 review of NCSEAA data likewise reported that Charlotte Latin and Providence Day do not accept vouchers.
The full set of federal-survey schools that did not appear on the list is in the table below. Several are preschool-only programs, which could not take the scholarship anyway because it starts at kindergarten.
Why would a school stay off the list?
Participation carries obligations: designated standardized tests in grades 3, 8 and 11, sharing results with NCSEAA, a criminal background check for the top administrator, and a CPA financial review for schools with 70 or more scholarship students. Some schools choose their own aid instead.
What can a family do if their school is not listed?
Ask the school whether it plans to register, use its own aid, or compare schools that are listed. NCSEAA also describes an ESA+ reimbursement-school category, so an ESA+ family should ask NCSEAA whether it fits their school.
