Does ESA+ pay for speech, occupational or ABA therapy in Charlotte?
Yes. ESA+ pays licensed or credentialed therapists who are enrolled with SEAA, including speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, board-certified behavior analysts and therapeutic riding instructors. Therapy does not count toward the $500 academic rule.
Provider must be enrolled with SEAA and licensed or credentialed in the field.
The Opportunity Scholarship pays only tuition and required fees.
What are the ESA+ rules for therapy?
- Examples of accepted credentials include the NC Board of Occupational Therapy, the NC Board of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists, the Behavior Analyst Certification Board, NILD and PATH Intl.
- Insurance co-pays, and services after insurance runs out, are allowable if the request is submitted before the end of the ESA+ year in which the therapy happened.

How does this work for a Charlotte-area family?
Ask a Charlotte therapist whether they are already enrolled with SEAA; enrollment is what lets the account pay them directly.
